The cookie crumbles
by
…and there is nothing much you can do about it
In a Chinese fortune cookie, it doesn’t matter how the cookie crumbles , the message inside remains the same as the day out the baker buried it in there.
Who would have thought that the Chinese fortune cookie is meant to be a glimpse of what life is all about. For however the cookie crumbles for you, it does not change the mission that was planted in your life the day you were born.
You may not have picked Green Moon in the Melbourne cup, or bought a winning ticket in the Tuesday night $112 Million Oz Lotto Lottery draw – It doesn’t matter….Because it is just not written on that piece of paper buried deep in your life cookie.
Most of us are mesmerised by how the cookie crumbles and miss out on the truth. Life is not about how the Cookie crumbles – but by the message that is hidden inside. The façade that hides the secret message casts a spell that tries to protect itself – and any damage to this shell is viewed as bad.
…But the only way to find out what is written in your life message is to break that protective shell.
Some of us prefer the look of the intact cookie and try their hardest to preserve it by wrapping it in multiple layers of fluff. Some manage to keep the message hidden in the body of the cookie even though life has knocked off all the fragile edges.
For some, catastrophe strikes and the cookie crumbles. But then, the reflex action is to try putting the pieces back together again (just like Humpty Dumpty) – Never thinking that perhaps by discarding the shell and embracing the fortune message hidden inside, the truth will be revealed.
Life is quite simple really. It just follows the natural progression of the fortune cookie:
- The baker thinks up a ‘fortune’ and seals it in a fancy shell that takes a little effort to crack. The cookie is born.
- The cookie is then exposed to the world. And whether it likes it or not, it will get broken. Imagine putting the fortune cookie in front of a child and not getting messed up – impossible.
- The ‘fortune’ message is exposed.
- The cookie gets all the attention and gets consumed. The ‘fortune’ incites a brief attention before being discarded.
- Only very rarely does the ‘fortune’ survive the consumption process. It is just not tasty enough. The message seems un-important and is irrelevant to the meal.
…And only the rare ones discretely save the ‘fortune’ and relocate in into another receptacle to be treasured as the guiding life message. These people do not worry any more about how the cookie crumbles because the message is safe – and they can choose whether to show others their message by keeping it in a glass container, or they can secrete it in a tin can.
Your cookie will crumble. Let it do so – but watch for the message inside…
